Group Therapy

Group therapy is an economical and often essential part of recovery for both addicts and family members affected by addiction. Groups facilitated by a therapist, although they share much in common with peer-led support groups, are different in that they are led by a professional whose training and accreditation qualify her/him to do psychotherapy. A therapy group, then, is a form of treatment where the intention is to identify and resolve the problems that underlie the more obvious symptoms. Group therapy also utilizes the group process as a mechanism of change by developing, exploring and examining interpersonal relationships within the group.

Current Groups offered:

Breaking the Cycle: Group Therapy for Sex and Relationship Addicts

Based on Patrick Carne’s Recovery Tasks model, the Breaking the Cycle therapy group provides structured meetings and experiential assignments in a confidential, supportive environment to help addicts in early and middle stages of recovery prevent relapse, establish healthy relationships, and explore core belief systems often rooted in traumatic experiences. The group offers addicts opportunities to reduce shame-based behaviors, reclaim a sense of self, develop healthy boundaries and communication skills, and explore issues related to trauma and loss. Weekly: Mondays, 6:00-7:30pm.

Reclaiming Ourselves: Group Therapy for Partners of Sex Addicts

The Reclaiming Ourselves therapy group provides structured meetings and experiential assignments based on research-driven models of recovery for partners of sex addicts. The group offers partners opportunities to reclaim a sense of self, explore issues related to betrayal and grief, and begin healing from the trauma shared by partners of sex addicts.  Time/days TBD.
